Greetings fellow spotdancers,  dancespotters, dancers, homos, homodancespots.

This weeks Top  Spot News Story:  Halloween homodanceshow a Success. See below.

Upcoming News: Nothing much on the horizon that can compare with the last 24 hours at this time.  Rest and respite for those of us most harried.    We will however get you up to speed on current happenings:

We want to see everyone at The Ballroom-Sac town – mostly Monday and Tuesdays for international standard with Chad and Marie, though there are numerous other dance classes offered.  Check out their monthly class schedule (these are mixed classes).  Then on the fist Sunday of the month, Chad and Marie do a same-sex workshop.  These are great.   Things have also commenced in Oakland (same-sex) again- they are offering  excellent beginner and intermediate standard classes.  (They also offer an advanced standard class but we have no idea what they do in that class.)

The Top Spot News Story: Halloween homodanceshow a Success.

A frightful night avoided, as people really did show up for the first ever Halloween homodanceshow.   Late afternoon filled the dance venue with a great group of homodancespot decorators- not quite in the same vein as queer eye for the straight guy, but still queer eye as the cheesy orange and black crepe paper was dangled precariously about the room- that was a bit of a fiasco – but ended being fairly festive.  Scippola did some last minute music compilations- thank goodness- making the evening show tunes run nearly unfaultered for our gracious yet jamming DJ: Jammin Jo.    The treats table overflowed with numerous baked good items.  I guess the warning that there was a chance that there might only be some scimpy rice crispy bars prompted the bakers to come out in droves.  I especially appreciated that.   There were cup cakes and Minnie cupcakes, chips and salsa,  potato chips,  brownies along with those scimpy rice crispy bars.  A beautiful bouquet of flowers home grown and hand picked- thank you Cindy and Elena, welcomed the evenings guests.  Other decorations included real hay bales, carved pumpkins and spider webs.

The early evening arrived quickly as decorators, soon to be performers, attempted to get into their Halloween garb.  Initial fright turned into supreme challenge as performers attempted makeup application in bathrooms that refused to shed any light on the subject, in the end the makeup turned out a bit more ghoulish than planned, but considering the night well – an added benefit.  The crowd arrived around the 7:00 hour, programs were handed out (thanks Annette and Cindy for their creation and for the last minute Kinko run), the lights were dimmed and social dancing commenced.   For those costumed there were several pirates and a plane, a cowboy and a pumkin, prisoner and  a cop, a kitten/dominatrix, a vampire and a dentist, an edelweiss couple,  and  a fem/butch - oops(or was that a butch/fem).  There were also numerous well dressed ballroom dancers, and the casual dressed were still welcomed and made up the remaining crowd.  At 7:30 the show began.  Heintje opened with a special treat- in drag- singing and dancing and nearly losing all his clothing along the way.  Next,  Heather and Sunny performed a West Coast Swing, doing a lot of twirling, which I liked because Heather was wearing a great twirling skirt.  Cindy and Elena followed with a nice Foxtrot number.  The partner Cha Cha with Sue and Kate, Denae and Cindy and Sunny and Heather  began the latin lineup.  Heintje and Jenny amazed the crowd with their Rumba and the first half was wrapped up with the Pride parade cha cha line dance with Elly, Sue, Monica, Zoe, Adrienne, Cindy, Denae , Kate, and Heintje performing.

Cindy amazingly go t the entire crowd onto  their feet and taught ‘em all the samba line dance- I think they were kind of amazed too.  Social dancing continued for a darn good while until the second half of the show commenced.  Opening were Heintje and Mills with a twisted jive- Cindy your costume kept us all enthralled.  Sue and Cindy followed with their Salsa number(we didn’t give Cindy much time to costume change J)  that they used for competition at California Dreaming.     A haunting partner Waltz followed with Lauren and Courtney, Kate and Denae, Heather and Sunny and Cindy and Elena.  The Cha Cha formation team wrapped up the evening with a super number, Heintje choreographer, and Monica,Cindy, Sue, Adrienne, Jose and Zoe performing.  The entire performing crew did one last samba line dance and then the dance floor remained open for social dancing into the wee hours.

A huge thank you goes out to all whom performed and attended.  We might just do this all again next year.

Until next time- keep your partners happy, don’t dance crappy, and with any luck see you in The Spot News. Previous Edition
